Using the money from the grant, I have conducted two separate surveys on public opinion for same-sex marriage in Japan. The first survey was conducted in December 2024, coinciding with the Fukuoka High Court's ruling on same-sex marriage on December 13. In the survey, some 1,331 respondents living in the Kushu region were recruited through PureSpectrum. The goal of the survey was to see whether respondents' attitudes towards same-sex marriage and sexual minorities were affected by the ruling by comparing respondents who answered the survey before the ruling had occurred and after it had occurred. The results of the survey were inconclusive. However, I published a blog post in the ECPR academic blog “The Loop,” presenting the results of this pilot study. Link to the article below:
