- This project aims to understand the roles and activities of labor brokers in Indonesia's labor-sending process. I conducted three weeks of fieldwork research in Lombok and Jakarta, Indonesia in August, 2024. During the fieldwork, with local research assistants, I visited five sending companies and sending organizations and interviewed 8 managers and executives, as well as several migrant workers. I also did participant observation at one of the sending companies that trained Specified Skilled Worker for Japan. The findings of the fieldwork are written into the paper submitted to Asian and Pacific Migration Journal as part of a special section I am also editing. The paper is titled: "Providers, Protectors, Pioneers: Sending company identities in Indonesia’s international labor migration". It is co-authored with one of the research assistant, Firman Budianto, and is currently under review.I have also submitted a paper using the findings of this project to IMISCOE--the biggest international conference on migration and integration. It is accepted and I will present in July, 2025.
