- This study investigates the effects of female Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and board gender diversity on ESG performance, especially "social" performance of large US firms. We first examined the effects of female CHRO.on firm social performance and found that the presence of female CHRO indeed improves the ESG scores related to social performance. We also found that the effects are weakened with the presence of female CEO and greater board gender diversity.
