研究成果概要
This research project took a comparative look at how Indigenous art is framed within extant art infrastructures and exhibition events, looking both at the production of art around climate change and environment in Micronesia and exploring how climate and nuclear themes are exhibited in Australia, a major hub for art from Oceania. I followed up on a special research project conducted in the summer of 2023 in the irradiated northern atolls of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, where I conducted participant observation on how Islander artists collaborate to resist and mitigate climate change while also engaging in activism against nuclear weapons. The project involved presenting a paper at the Pacific History Association and writing a research essay for a book published by the Sydney Biennale 2024. I also participated as a contributor and organizer of a collaborative art exhibition held in Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands, during the Nuclear Victims and Survivors Remembrance Week in March 2024. This event provided significant insights into how cultural memory and the representation of nuclear survivors are managed in Indigenous contexts. I further reflected on these themes at the Sydney Biennale, working with international collaborators, and conducted interviews with artists, curators, and organizers. These findings underscored the importance of genuine Indigenous representation in cultural spaces.
