研究成果概要
With this research grant, I clarified how Tim O’Brien, a veteran of the Vietnam War, used metafiction and representations of gender to criticize American involvement in the war and its draft system, and how he attempted to reconcile American veterans and non-veterans in his masterpiece, The Things They Carried. I summarized this study in a presentation entitled “The Ethic of Metafiction in The Things They Carried” at the 13th Waseda Creative Writing and Criticism Conference on October 29, 2022. Based on this presentation, I wrote a research paper with the same title and submitted it to Waseda Creative Writing and Criticism Studies, published by Waseda Creative Writing and Criticism Association. This paper has been accepted and will be published soon.
