研究成果概要
This study examines the relationship among the general stigma against drug addiction, recovery support facilities, and the awareness of helping drug addicts. The participants of the online survey were 200 persons (110 males, 86 females, and 4 others; mean age: 49.52±14.61) who were over 18 years old and who were registered as monitors with an academic research company. The degree of stigma toward themselves (self-criticism) as drug addicts, the degree of stigma associated with society’s image of drug addicts and private recovery support facilities in terms of images existing in general society, and the degree of normative attitude toward helping were used as measures. Results of chi-square analysis showed the frequency of "agree a little" and "agree" responses to stigma was higher than others. In addition, the correlation analysis between self-stigma and the normative attitude toward helping addicts showed there was a significant negative correlation coefficient between self-stigma and self-sacrifice (r = -.24, p < .01), a subscale of the normative awareness of helping scale. The results suggest that the general public has a negative image of drug addiction and of private recovery support facilities, and the stigma patients associated with themselves may interfere with recovery support for drug addicts.
