- 研究成果概要
- In this project, Ingemar Ottosson, of Lund University, and I collaborated on researching and writing a manuscript about the bilateral relationship of Sweden and Japan during Japan’s fifteen years of warfare, from 1931–1945. Since Sweden remained neutral during the entire time of Japan’s conflicts in China, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, Stockholm could play an interesting role in the international relations of Asia, even during the height of the war. The research concludes that Swedish interests toward Japan and Asia in general were strong and old enough to survive the belligerency of WWII, and that also Japan gained advantages from its relationship with Sweden. At the same time, the USA and other belligerents, too used the Swedish connection to further their interests toward the Japanese Empire, even when war had already broken out. The resulting book will be published in 2021, by Routledge.
