研究成果概要

During the 2020 financial year, a study was designed and administered with the support of Waseda University's Tokutei Kadai seed funding to evaluate expectations regarding aging among middle aged and older Japanese adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health-related expectations regarding aging are an important construct as they are potentially associated with proactive lifestyle behaviors that help to maintain or improve quality of life for aging individuals. As part of the data collection, information was also gathered on weekly physical activity and demographic parameters using valid and reliable scales.

With written permission from the original North-American scale authors (Sarkisian et al., 2005), the investigators developed a Japanese translation of the ERA-12 (Expectations Regarding Aging scale) and administered the measure with a sample of 800 middle-aged and older adults using an online survey methodology. Following data collection, cleaning, and statistical analysis, two manuscripts are currently in preparation for submission in international academic fora during 2021.

It is our earnest hope that we will be able to share the findings of this interesting and important research with the international community following the end of the global pandemic. We thank Waseda University sincerely for supporting our efforts.
