研究成果概要

A literature review of 45 anaerobic digestion studies have been conducted and a database containing 87 biomass energy conversion technology development projects in developing Southeast Asian countries have been constructed using the equipment and materials bought under this tokutei kadai project funding. The countries covered were Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, and the Philippines.

The anaerobic digestion literature review database is now becoming the foundation to develop a guideline of municipal waste biogas plant implementation in developing countries under a different project with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).

The southeast Asian biomass energy conversion technology development project database is now being analyzed with a novel methodology that we developed called the Japanese Technology Readiness Assessment (J-TRA) under a different project funded by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the e-Asia Project.

One of the findings is that biomass energy conversion project in the region are not only facing technical challenges also institutional and social aspects. Our J-TRA methodology covered the following aspects: market, development, integration, verification, safety, commercialization, and cost/risk. In many of the projects we analyzed, there are bigger economic aspects challenges compared with technical challenges.
