The project aimed to compare the realisations of Second Language (L2) English stress by native speakers of Japanese, Chinese and Korean. 
    Previous studies (e.g. Lee, Guion & Harada, 2006; Zhang, Nissen & Francis, 2008; Kondo, 2012; Konishi & Kondo 2015) showed that Japanese, Chinese and Korean learners use different combinations of the parameters to manifest L2 English stress (i.e. vowel intensity, duration, F0 and quality). 
    Using corpora of L2 English by Japanese learners (n = 72) and Korean learners (n = 139), the current study compared the relative contribution of each of the four parameters by comparing the coefficients of the parameters that significantly contributed to the realisation of stress in regression analyses. Since Chinese data was not available, Japanese and Korean learner groups were compared.
    The result revealed that advanced Japanese learners use more of the parameters used by native English speakers (i.e. intensity) and they relied less on the parameters used in Japanese phonology (i.e. F0). For the Korean learner group, transfer of Korean phrasal accent overrode L2 English stress and the analysis was not properly done. The future study will need to control the effect of intonational phonology in the analysis of Korean learners of English.
