  The mobile terminal has become an integral device to society, enabling nearly ubiquitous communication of voice and data. However, in some densely area, the limited bandwidth of radio communication can not satisfy each user with the increasing needs of amounts of data. In densely populated areas such as railway stations, current wireless systems such as Wi-Fi and LTE networks face great challenges or even fail to deliver high capacity and high quality-of-experience (QoE) broadband services to mobile users. This is mainly because current systems on one side are short of radio bandwidth and lacking of synergy when conducting radio resource optimization. Optical wireless communication (OWC) can provide a high-speed communication. It combines the large bandwidth of optical fiber and the mobility of current wireless communications using radio waves. However, optical wireless communication also has some drawback such as the shadow issues. On the other hand, radio has the advantage of being available ubiquitously indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of a seamless system infrastructure that allows users to move. This project is to design a hybrid radio frequency (RF) OWC system for providing high-speed broadband multimedia services in densely populated local areas.
