研究成果概要

Mitigation and utilization of regolith particles existing on the Moon, Mars, and asteroids are the key to the success of future space exploration missions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop regolith handling technologies that work effectively in the harsh environment of space. Because electrostatic and magnetic handling technologies for particles have several advantages, such as removal of unnecessary mechanical drives, gas and liquid systems; a simple structure; and straightforward control systems, that make them suitable for use in space environments, we have developed the following technologies; (1) numerical method suitable for calculation of dynamics of electromagnetic particles in space environment, (2) electrostatic dust shield system of lunar and Mars exploration equipment, (3) particle size-sorting system for lunar regolith using electrostatic traveling wave, (4) sampling of regolith on asteroids using electrostatic force, (5) sampling of regolith on the Moon, Mars, and asteroids utilizing magnetic force, and (6) vibration transport of regolith and its application in combination with electrostatic and magnetic samplers. It is expected that the performances of all systems will be improved for use in space environments and the systems will contribute to future exploration missions.
