The present study investigated the effect of stress-management program focusing on the appraisals of coping acceptability to their workplace contexts, in comparison to usual programs. One hundred and thirty-seven employees from 7 workplaces participated in the study. The data of the final sample, which consisted of a group of usual stress-management (N = 45), a group of stress-management with motivational interviewing (N = 20), and a group of stress-management focusing on the appraisals of coping acceptability (N = 36), was subjected to the analysis. The stress response was significantly decreased in a group of stress-management focusing on the appraisals of coping acceptability. In addition, individual employee's appraisal of coping acceptability with regard to proactive problem-solving significantly improved in a group of stress-management focusing on the appraisals of coping acceptability. On the other hand, no significant effect was observed in the other two groups. These findings suggest that facilitating the appraisals of individual coping acceptability to their workplace contexts would effectively facilitate a psychological adjustment as well as expanding coping repertories and facilitating the use of coping.
