Photochemical oxidant (tropospheric ozone, O3) is still important. Total oxidants (called as ‘potential ozone’ in Japan, PO=NO2+O3) are convenient to simply recognize the behavior of ozone. In this study, utilizing accurate and versatile NO2 analyzers, CAPS-NO2, (1) construction of a portable NO2 analyzer and a test of moving observation of exhaust gas nearby emission sources were conducted. Moving observation of NO2 was successful for 25 minutes. In a parking area, exhaust gases emitted from automobiles into atmosphere were directly monitored. (2) Simultaneous observation of PO, NOx, and/or NO2 at two sites was explored. The first site (a ‘laboratory’ in the university) was 100 m away from another site (an ‘office’ room). The laboratory is closer to a parking area than the office. Consequently, it was confirmed that the ambient air outside the laboratory be representative in the university. Additionally, it was also confirmed that observation at the laboratory be desirable to capture exhaust gases from the parking area. The portable analyzer and procedures for simultaneous observation at two sites are expected as new tools for capturing the atmospheric impact of exhaust gases. In order to explore the actual situations of exhaust gases, observation of real atmosphere is essential.
