- In my research I tried to revaluate the significance of the journal "Auserlesene Bibliothek der neuesten deutschen Litteratur", which was a literary review in the era of enlightenment published in Lemgo between 1772 and 1781. This journal was in competition with the most popular review at that time, Nicolai's "Allgemeine deutsche Bibliothek". So far, academic research has paid little attention to the journal "Auserlesene Bibliothek", because the names of the contributors have not been known until now. Only for a few reviews, like that of Lessing’s Emilia Galotti, the authorship in between could be revealed. During my research on this subject in the last two years I was able to decipher some more of the names hidden behind abbreviations (or numbers) and could disclose three authors, most important Jakob Mauvillon and Ludwig August Unzer, who both became famous in 1771 for their harsh criticism of the poet Gellert. Thanks to the Waseda University Grant for Special Research Projects I could continue to reveal more names of authors who contributed to this journal and was able to find out the names of 37 contributors. During my research trip to Germany I studied other 18th century periodicals at Rostock University and Leipzig University library (which are not available in the internet) and could collect a lot of material. This allows me to reconstruct the intellectual background of this journal.
The results of my research will be published in Waseda Blätter (2014). I also planning to publish an article on that topic in a peer-reviewed academic journal in Germany.
